"Warrant Officer Benson has completed a large number of hours flying on operations in the Middle East. He has at all times displayed great skill which, on more than one occasion, has been responsible for the safe return of his aircraft and its crew. In March, 1943, during a flight off the coast of Italy, his aircraft was attacked by 2
enemy fighters and sustained severe damage. Displaying fine airmanship, Warrant Officer Benson flew the damaged aircraft to base where he effected a masterly landing, although the port and tailwheel tyres were punctured. He displayed great skill and determination throughout."
