The following press article describes how Karl Müller won the Knight’s Cross…

“Kapitänleutnant Karl Müller has served in a Schnellboots-Flottille since May 1941, first as a Kommandant, later as a Rotten-and Gruppenführer. During this time the boats under his command sank 8 merchant ships, 1 tanker, 4 escort vessels, 1 destroyer and 1 other warship while also damaging a further escort vessel. In addition an armed special ship was assaulted and boarded.”

German E-boats under the command of Captain Lieutenant Karl Müller intruded the British convoy routes on the southwest coast of England on 6 January. They sank from a heavily fortified convoy five ships of 12 500 GRT and a guard. Further ships were damaged by torpedo hits. The complete German task without damage returned to its base.
