"Distinguished himself by courageous conduct on October 17, 1948, in Negororedjo (East Java) during a cleansing operation. In particular, upon receiving news that a well-armed, numerically superior terrorist gang was in his patrol area, he immediately deployed with a small force of his own and courageously and correctly confronted the gang, which was hiding in a kampong complex, almost completely destroying or capturing them. He also captured a considerable amount of weapons and ammunition.

Finally, during this operation, among other things, he led and inspired his unit under heavy automatic fire, without regard to danger to his own life."
