He has distinguished himself in the face of the enemy on January 3, 1951 near Chakyonni (Korea), posted to a patrol of the Dutch Detachment United Nations.
After part of the patrol had penetrted into a village and came under heavy fire, necessitating an attempt at relief, he voluntarily offered to go forward across fire-swept terrain in order to assess the situation in the village. On return from this assignment, he was seriously injured. An attempt was made to bring him back behind our own lines but he died during the transfer.
