"Has distinguished himself by courageous action against the enemy in the early morning of May 10, 1940 as a commander of a heavy machine gun at Loosduinen, when the enemy air landed at Ockenburg airfield. He and his heavy machine gun were already very close to this airport, while he tried to advance even further under concentrated machine gun and rifle fire, but was forced to temporarily leave the machine gun as a result of this fire. He was severely wounded while he tried to to crawl across open terrain to try to get it out of enemy hands."
