Biography

Rudolf had a brother, SS Obersturmbahnfuhrer Friedrich Suhr, who also received a Knights cross. Both of them had a half brother in New Zealand, Gustav Suhr, who fought in the 22nd Battalion NZEF during the Second World war. At one point, both Rudolf and Gustav were fighting in Greece in opposite sides.

His father was Gustav George Nicholas Metoo Suhr, who was last known to be living in New Plymouth NZ but then vanished overseas after internment during the First World War.

Received for his battalion's success in preventing Soviet tank units from relieving their comrades, which were encircled in Goldap. By the conclusion of the fighting the battalion had destroyed 42 tanks, and Suhr was recognized appropriately for this success.
