"On Sunday 28 May 44 this Gdsm was Bren gunner in a large sangar on the most Western peak of M. PICCOLO. Throughout the morning he repulsed continuous efforts to infiltrate on the part of the enemy. Though subjected to fire from automatics and snipers his own aim was accurate and killed several of the enemy. He remained there effectively at his post in considerable danger and cruel heat for some hours - until he was wounded in the head by a rifle grenade."
