The following wartime excerpt describes why Schneider received the Knight’s Cross…

“The steely resolve of Leutnant Schneider on the 10.04.1942 was of great importance to the II./Geb.Jäg.Rgt. 206. On this day his personally-led counterattack crushed the enemy who had penetrated the line, and thereby resolved a dangerous state of affairs for the Bataillon. His bold and successfully commanded counterattack was against our own lines on the 10.04.1942 near Hill 34.4 on the road Jaswy—Michalkino.”
