“Knight’s Cross for a Pomeranian Hauptmann - Fallen Officer Honoured Posthumously:

The Führer has posthumously awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to Hauptmann Kurt Pantel, Kompanie commander in an Infanterie-Regiment.

Hauptmann Kurt Pantel… brought about the decisive preconditions for the creation of a bridgehead across the Lowat river during the breakthrough of toughly defended enemy positions at the end of this past April. On the 23.05.1942 he succumbed to the severe injuries that he suffered in subsequent combat. His dutifulness and self-sacrificing spirit have now been recognized with the posthumous award of the Knight’s Cross.”
