The following wartime excerpt describes why Pfalzgraf received the Knight’s Cross…

“Feldwebel Oskar Pfalzgraf… was awarded the Knight’s Cross on the 07.10.1942 while serving as a Zugführer in an Infanterie-Regiment. He received this for his actions northwest of Voronezh at the end of July 1942. Here, acting on his own initiative, he managed to halt an attack by far numerically superior Bolshevik forces with only a few infantrymen.”
