The following wartime excerpt describes why Prost received the Knight’s Cross…

“Oberfeldwebel Theodor Probst… participated in a deliberate counterattack north of Orel while serving as a Zugführer in a Grenadier-Kompanie. During this attack the assault group came under flanking MG fire from two enemy bunkers. In response Probst took 4 men, stormed both bunkers and annihilated their garrison of over 20 men.”
