Memorial 'de Hazenhof'

On 18 September 1944 an American C47 transport aircraft serial 43-16032, chalk-number 697 crashed between Dodewaard and Opheusden. The C47 was taking part in Operation Market Garden carrying paratroopers of B Company 10th Battalion to Ginkel Heath. The majority of the para's jumped to safety just in time. A couple of crew members also survived the crash. Most of them were taken to 'the Hazenhof' by the resistance.

The text on the plaque is:
During "OPERATION MARKET GARDEN" in September 1944 sixteen British paratroopers of the 10th Battalion and a corporal of the American crew stayed in the Hazenhof. With the help of the resistance they were able to escape to the allied lines.
