MERCHANT NAVY SEAMEN WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE NAVAL
"Operation Neptune"
JUNE 6th - SEPTEMBER 1944
They manned the merchant ships that provided the supply line for the Armies, and as such
they were a prime target in "Operation Overlord"
the Normandy Landings, the firth phase in the "Liberation of Europe"
ALSO IN MEMORY OF MERCHANT NAVY SEAMEN FROM 1939 - 1945
WHO LOST THEIR LIVED IN EUROPEAN COASTAL WATERS
UNTIL EUROPE WAS FINALLY LIBERATED IN MAY 1945.
For those who rest beneath,
They gave their lives that you may share
A Europe that is free.


Text on the plaque #3:
In recognition of the Royal Air Force Beach
Squadrons that landed in Normandy with
the seaborne assault forces.
The RAF Beach Squadrons worked in the
SWORD, JUNO and GOLD areas to facilitate
the build-up of RAF personnel, vehicles and
supplies vital to the operations of the 2nd
Tactical Air Force.
Men of these RAF beach units, some of whom
landed early in the morning of D-Day, worked
closely with their Army and Navy comrades
in the beach areas and showed the true spirit
of Combined Operations.
