Bomb Shelter Kröller-Müller Museum

This bomb shelter was built just before World War Two. It gave the collection of the Kröller-Müller Museum a safe place. The museum closed it's doors on 29 July 1940. With the help of Canadiansoldiers, the official reopening took place on 6 October 1945.

The translation of the Latin tekst above the entrance of the shelter is:

So the jaws of Mars should not devour the monuments of art, this cellar was built twice two years ago. Now, because the fury of the god concerned with battles is growing, it has been both buried and hidden beneath a high hill of sand.


The shelter is normally not open to the public.
