Memorial Memorial Giorgio Labo and Gianfranco Mattei

This plaque in Rome commemorates Giorgio Labo and Gianfranco Mattei, who were arrested by the SS on 1st February 1944. Afraid that he would betray his comrades under torture, Mattei hanged himself. Labo resisted torture for 18 days, and was then shot without trial.

The inscription reads:
Da questa casa ove i patrioti romani occultavano le armi per las resistenza Giorgio Labo e Gianfranco Mattei artificieri furono tratti dai tedeschi il 1 Febbraio 1944 per essere iterrogati e messi a morte

A memoria dell'eroico silenzio che fu salvezza ai compagni di lotta e del sacrifizio e posta questa lapide
