War Memorial Stiphout
The liberation monument [/ towid] is a design by the artist Sjef Verhoeven and was unveiled on September 20 for the Stiphout resistance hero Maurits Hertzberger was placed. Maurits Hertzberger has saved many Jewish children and adults.

The liberation of Stiphout
Operation Market Garden uses the ground forces of the British XXX Corps. This corps would advance on the "Hell's Highway" from the Belgian border to Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem. The VIII Corps is ordered to sweep the area around Stiphout and Helmond.

On September 21, 1944, the 23rd Hussars and the 8th Rifles advance from Geldrop towards Nuenen to reach Gerwen and the Gerwense Heide. Nuenen can be taken without a fight, but after leaving Nuenen towards Gerwen the "B" Squadron encounters German tanks. "A" Squadron tries to reach the target west via Dutch Laws, but is also stopped. "C" Squadron then tries to advance towards Stiphout, but there too one soon encounters German tanks of the Panzer-Brigade 107. On 22 September 1944 the advance towards Gerwen resumes. Especially in the woods are many Germans with anti-tank weapons. The 8th Rifles is used to sweep the forests. Gerwen and Stiphout were liberated in the afternoon of Friday, September 22, 1944.

The bicycle route in Helmond is a collaboration between Death Valley De Peel of the Museum Klok & Peel, Heemkundekring Helmont, Stichting Helmond September 25, 1944 and TracesOfWar.nl. The route consists of a number of points, not all of which have a sign.
