Memorial René Pargala

At the edge of the Bois de Luchy is a cross and memorial stone for René Pargala, a French soldier of the 11th Infantry Regiment, who died in Ochamps on August 22, 1914.

" Here
on Saturday, August 22, 1914
at ten o'clock in the morning
a child of France was killed.
René PARGALA
from Fleurance (Gers)
Soldier of the 11th line
in Castelsarrasin (Tarn and Garonne)
He was a liaison officer.
He has been a loving son and brother
and devoted loyal comrade of France.
He fell under the beatings
of the German patrol.
His supreme thought went
to those he loved and he died
like a hero and a martyr
for his country and his duty.
He was 25.

You who pass by, just think
to the little soldier of France "
