Gaststätte Lommerzheim - Bombing Damage

The city of Cologne was bombed frequently during WW2. An estimated 1.5 million bombs fell on the city, killing about 20,000 people. After the German capitulation, the city was a wasteland full of ruins. The traces of this are still visible, for example through empty spaces in the city, some ruins, damage, and buildings lower than usual.
Gaststätte Lommerzheim in the Deutz district is an example of this. The building is lower than the surrounding buildings, because the second floor was damaged by a bombardment and has not been rebuilt since. Other than that, it is special, because the facade has been kept in its authentic state. Inside there is a beer cellar with authentic dishes.
