Graves Dutch Civilian Casualties Roman Catholic Cemetery Oosteind

On the R.C. Cemetery in Oosteind is a mass grave of victims who were killed by the impact of a German V1 strike.

Oosteind was liberated a few months when, on February 15th 1945 the farm of the Bogers family at the Leijsendwarsstraat (now Heikantsestraat) was hit by a German V1 flying bomb. The V1 was not intended for the farm but had as many flying bombs in late '44, early '45 crashed before it could reach its goal. This V1 was en route to Antwerp and crashed into Oosteind. 13 people lost their lives, a day the 14th victim died also in Turnhout due his injuries. Most victims were in the family Bogers but also the maid and two British soldiers have lost their lives.
The family Bogers is buried in this mass grave.

The British soldier Horace Edward Pearce is buried in the Commonwealth War Cemetery Bergen op Zoom.

On the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Oosteind is a grave of a civilian victim who died just after the liberation of Oosteind. This is the grave of Cornelis J. van Dongen who was shot dead in a meadow in Oosteind by remaining Germans.
