Fort Novosel (formerly Fort Rucker)

Fort Novosel was built in 1942 as an Army infantry training center. Four infantry divisions trained here during the war the 81st, 35th, 98th and 66th. The fort also had a major POW compound holding about 1700 POWs. The base was reactivated during the Korean War after it was closed in 1946.
