Memorial Monument Belgian Adjutant Jules Rasquin

Monument in memory of Belgian adjutant Jules RASQUIN.

The monument commemorates the fact that adjutant Jules RASQUIN, aged 43, from Herstal (B), was shot here during a sabotage operation. This happened on July 13, 1944.

Adjutant Rasquin was a member of the resistance group Service de Reseignements et d'Action (S.R.A.). Most of the members were former soldiers (demobilized after Belgium's capitulation or released from captivity) who joined or founded various resistance groups active in Belgium. The best known and largest resistance group was the Armée Secret, or Secret Army. Within the S.R.A., he was part of Group A.L. and G.

After being shot at this location, he was buried in the graveyard for those shot at the Citadel of Liège. His autopsy report mentions two bullets in the heart, three through the sternum, one below the sternum, one bullet to the left of the xiphoid process, and one bullet above the xiphoid process on the left.

Jules Rasquin was buried in the cemetery of Herstal-Rhées.
