Memorial 201st Squadron Mexican Expeditionary Force

This memorial commemorates the 201st Squadron, which was founded after Mexico declared war on the Axis powers. This happened after several Mexican oil tankers were sunk in the Gulf of Mexico by German U-boats on May 22, 1942.

This squadron was also known as the Aztec Eagles and was trained from July 1944 at various airfields in America and on February 20, 1945 they completed their training. On April 30, 1945 they arrived in Manila and were attached to the American 58th Fighter group and assisted in the liberation of Luzon in the Philippines and also attacked the Japanese on Formosa.

They flew more than 90 combat missions, during which 5 pilots were killed.
