Memorial Antoine-Adolphe Fonck

This monument commemorates Antoine-Adolphe Fonck, who was stationed on these barracks at the center of the city of Liège.

Antoine-Adolphe Fonck was the first Belgian soldier to be killed in action when the war broke out for Belgium on August 4th 1914. He was killed at the village of Thimister.

The monument says:

On these barracks
from 1855 until 1914 was stationed
the 2nd Regiment Lancers
to which calvalryman FONCK belonged
the first soldier to be killed by the ennemy
on August 4th 1914 a THIMISTER
