Bullet Holes Boteringesingel 4

The facade of the house at Boteringesingel 4 still shows the consequences of the fighting that took place here during the liberation of the city Groningen in April 1945. On 13 April 1945, the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division attacked the city, which was stubbornly defended by a hotchpotch of German troops. The house is located near the Noorderplantsoen where heavy fighting took place on the route to the city centre on 15 April.

On 16 April 1945, the Germans surrendered. Besides many casualties on both sides, 106 Groningen civilians were killed during the fighting and the stand was heavily damaged.
