The "10 van Renesse" group was determined to be at this location, the Borrendamme.
A group of 17 people attempted to cross to the liberated Netherlands in two attempts on December 6 and 7, 1944. A boat crossing was organized in consultation with the Allies.
They failed twice due to a combination of circumstances.
After the attempt on the night of December 7, 10 members of the group were arrested on the spot following a confrontation with the Germans.
The remaining members later reported to the occupying forces.
This happened after the gruesome execution of the 10 members and threats of further executions.
