The Ringstand Tobruk was a simple, reinforced fighting position with a round or octagonal opening at the top, usually manned by two soldiers. The standard German type, Bauform Vf58, could mount a machine gun, mortar, or even a small tank turret. Compact in size—about 3.7 by 2.4 meters and 2.75 meters deep—it served as an observation post or machine-gun nest.
