During the Napoleonic Wars the Navy Board set about minimising the impact of Dry Rot on ships under construction by building covers over all the building slips and docks used for shipbuilding. No 1 and 2 Slips were covered in 1813-15 . No 3 slip was constructed in 1838 but was soon outgrown by the size of the ships being built. In 1904 a mezzanine deck was added for extra storage.
This grade 1 listed building is now used as an exhibition room for military equipment. Many vehicles and equipment from 32 Regiment Royal Engineers from WW1. WW2 and Cold War periods are displayed. Additionally artifacts from the Dockyard collection are on display including many cannon, a drill Polaris missile, a shell from Carl Gustav Cannon, a midget submarine (XE-8) and General Kitchener's railway carriage from the Sudan campaign.
