2 October 1944 Huissen struck at the heart.
Images have been placed on the façade of this building, comparing the appearance of the street after the bombing on 2 October 1944 with that of the present day.
On 2 October, the centre of Huissen was hit by an Allied bombing raid. During reconnaissance missions the day before, German tanks and troops had been spotted, and the decision was made to bomb them. The Germans had already left, but 12 aircraft dropped their bomb load on the village, resulting in enormous losses and destruction. 160 people, including many evacuees from Elden, Nijmegen and Arnhem, were killed and even more were injured.
We do not know whether these images are permanent.
