Dutch War Grave N.H. Cemetery Jaarsveld

Arie de Groot's grave is located on the NH cemetery in Jaarsveld, municipality of Lopik.

De Groot was stationed in Vorden in Gelderland in the May days of 1940, with the 2nd company of 16 R.I. His battalion was scattered in the surroundings of Zutphen to guard bridges and roadblocks. After his company had destroyed the bridge at Vorden on 10 May, the soldiers left for Zutphen. In the afternoon there was already contact with German troops and with a grenade impact Arie de Groot died. Initially he was buried with a number of others at the General Cemetery on the Warnsveldseweg. On 15 October 1940 he was buried with great interest at the NH cemetery in Jaarsveld.
