This war memorial commemorates the residents of Hamipré, municipality of Neufchateau, who died in the First and the Second World War.

Hamipré is the place where, on August 20, 1914, one of the first battles between French and German troops in WW1 on Belgian soil took place: The Battle of La Justice. The fighting developed when the French 1st Battalion of the 87th Infantry Regiment ran into the German 21st Division. At the end of the day, 300 of the 1,200 French soldiers were killed and 300 wounded and taken prisoner. Civilians are also killed in battle and civilians are executed by the Germans or deported to Germany. Houses in the area are set on fire and looted.
