War Memorial and Grave Victims Gemert

War monument for the victims from the Gemert community and the other victims who fell in the area of Gemert. The monument is situated in the (very pretty) castlegarden in the centrum of Gemert.

On the front of the socle is the text:

On the outside circle of the socle is written:
We remember all the citizens of Gemert-Bakel where ever on the world they died by warviolence. We also remember all citizens who lost their lives on the soil of Gemert-Bakel..

We commemodate all the members of the Allied Forces who lost their lives on the soil of Gemert-Bakel.


On the inside circle is written:
Here are 3 people buried who gave their lives for us:
Johan Vilé *23-5-25 +Rosmalen 28-10-1944 . Peter Morris *23-1-1925 +Gemert 11-12-1944 . Jan Beekmans *8-11-1923 +Xanten 27-3-1945

Here was buried: Paul van Oostveen *6-12-1911 +Gemert 11-5-1940, he also gave his life for us.

For us was killed in action: Stanley Alexander *19-3-1910 +Gemert 24-9-1944

In service of the fatherland was killed in action: Piet Vogelsangs *22-11-1912 +Veghel 11-5-1940

They lost their lives in inprisonment: Lambertus de Groot *29-8-1891 +Neuengamme 23-12-1944 . Willem Wijtvliet *9-6-1902 +Buchenwald 8-2-1945

In Dutch-Indië who lost their lives in service of the fatherland: Peter Hoek *10-11-1913 +Benkoelen 18-9-1944 . Martien Goossens *25-4-1927 +Kebumen 19-1-1949 . Antoon van Berlo *12-1-1923 +Soerabaja 22-6-1947 . Martien de Fost *17-4-1925 +Batavia 3-9-1947

In Korea who lost their lives in service of the fatherland: Jan van Extel *5-12-1931 +Korea 18-3-1953


This is also the commonwealth war grave of the English Trooper Roderick Peter Morris, 14574476, who died on 11th December 1944.
