Stumbling Stones Lochnerstraße 11

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Grete Babette Walter (born 1902, murdered in Lodz on 11-3-1943)
Heinrich Walter (born 1893, murdered in Auschwitz in 1944)
Rolf Abraham Walter (born 1931, murdered in Chelmno in September 1942)

Lejzor Lippa Proter (born. 1883, escaped to Belgium died 29 juli 1944)
Rosa Proter (born. 1889, escaped to Belgium murdered in Auschwitz)
Jakob Proter (born. 1911, in 1936 escaped to Palestina)
Benno Hermann Proter (born. 1914, escaped to belgium and after to Palestina)
Joseph Proter (born. 1914, escaped in 1937 naar Switserland and after in 1942 to Palestina)
Selna Proter (born. 1914, escaped in 1939 to Belgium after that to Palestina)

The small copper plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
