Stumbling Stones Friedrichstraße 4

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Frieda Alexander (born 1891, murdered in Auschwitz on 13-3-1943)
Wolfgang Alexander (born 1924, murdered in Auschwitz on 13-3-1943)
Dagobert "David" Stillschweig (born 1896, murdered in Auschwitz on 11-2-1943)
Martha Stillschweig (born 1906, murdered in Auschwitz on 14-10-1944)
Gertrude Stillschweig (born 1907, murdered in Auschwitz on 14-10-1944)

The small copper plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted and mostly murdered by the National-Socialists, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
