Stumbling Stones Bürgermeister-Smidt-Straße

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Inge Goldschmidt (born 1929, murdered in Minsk)
Else Hirsch (born 1904, murdered in Auschwitz)
Helga Hirsch (born 1930, murdered in Auschwitz)
Hermann Hirsch (born 1903, murdered in Auschwitz)
Heinz Meyer (born 1903, murdered in Minsk)
Sophie Meyer (born 1902, murdered in Minsk)
Alma-Ursel Salomon (born 1930, murdered in Minsk)
Ella Salomon (born 1907, murdered in Minsk)
Ida Salomon (born 1881, suicide on 15-11-1938)
Leopold Salomon (born 1898, murdered in Minsk)

The small brass plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.

For more information and pictures, please visit Stolpersteine Bremen (in German).
