Resistance Memorial Students Utrecht

The memorial is located in the hallway of the Academy Building of the University of Utrecht.

The text on the memorial:
In the night of 12 to 13 December, 1942 the students Gijs den Besten, Frits Lordens, Geert Lubberhuizen, Anne Maclaine Pont and Rutger Marthijsen set the building of the student administration on fire to prevent the occupier of the data.

The Utrecht University honoured them and all the other students and staff members who were involved in the resistance during the years 1940-1945.

The partially melted Hermes statuette shows the effects of the fire.

"In the darkest hours did we know that there are eternal principles."
