Memorial For 8 Executed Priests

This plaque is located at the Carabanchel Parish Cemetery. Eight Carmelite priests, between 18 and 22 years of age, were shot dead in this place in 1936 by a couple of militiamen of the Republic Assault Force. They are considered martyrs of the Spanish Civil War and were beatified in 2013 by the Pope.

During 1936-1939 about 6,832 clerical victims were excecuted by Republicans because of their faith. It is referred to as Spain's Red Terror.

The bullet holes still remains in the wall of the cemetery.
