V1 Feuerstellung 618 - FA Gebäude

In Pas-de-Calais and Cotentin 1943 huge launch bases, with concrete roofs of up to 5 meters thick, built in order to fire the rockets in large numbers. 96 bases were built in the forests and villages of Normandy and Artois. The walls of one of these launch platforms can be seen here on the edge of the forest of Tournehem. The axis of the platform is directed to London, at a distance of 180 km. In December 1943 the allies launched Operation "Crossbow". All 96 bases came under heavy fire. There are about 10 000 V1-bombs fired on London from French territory, between June 13 and 1 September 1944. Many bombes were fired from mobile bases that could easily and quickly set up and were also easier to hide.
