Widerstandsnest 118 Krefeld - Marine Küstenbatterie MIII

This battery only appeared at this location in May 1944, when the guns of the battery were moved backwards from their original location in Stützpunkt 115 "Wuppertal", in order to better protect it against attacks from both sea and air. This strongpoint was a naval battery with the tactical function of controlling the waters off the Bay of Wissant.

Nowadays, only the M120 command post remains, although in a rather destroyed condition. All 4 gun casemates were blown up by the Germans and concrete remains can be found strewn all over the place.

Further to the southeast an infantry strongpoint Widerstandsnest 118 "Krefeld" was established in 1944, presumaby to protect the rear of the battery and to control the coastal road entering Wissant. No bunkers were built here.
