Memorial "De Naald" Housing Association Leiden

War memorial De Naald, Acehstraat Leiden.

This monument was originally not a war memorial. It was founded in 1937 as a gift from the residents of De Kooi to the De Eendracht housing association in honor of its 25th anniversary. In 1953 a masonry bank was placed at the monument with a plaque on it in memory of the victims who had fallen into the neighborhood during the Second World War. The bank was demolished in 1970. The De Plaquette was applied to the needle in 1995.

The names of thirteen people are on the memorial plaque;
Jan Boom, Louis de Bolster, Carel Carton, Machiel Dubbeldeman and Johanna Dubbeldeman-van Weeren, Johannes van Egmond, Izaak Filippo, Johannes Lezwijn, Nico Olivier, Hendrik Paalvast, Jan Pennenburg, Johannes Teske and Johannes Welling.
