Maginot Line - Fortress Salmagne

The Maginot-fortress La Salmagne (standing on top of a 19th century fortress) was a component of the Secteur Fortifié de l'Escaut. The garrison surrendered after intense bombardment by German artillery.

The fort today:
Fortress Salmagne is property of the AMIFORT association, who have turned it into a museum.
