Memorial Valentin Müller

This plaque commemorates Colonel Valentin Müller, medical officer and commander of the German troops in Assisi during the Second World War. He is considered as savior of Assisi and the people of Assisi because he made Assisi a hospital-centre and opened military hospitals everywhere, against the will of the German army. Because of that they could not destroy large parts of the city (the explosives were already in place) and lost of lives, also from many Jews who were hiding in the basements, could be saved.

After the war, Valentin Müller was honored by Italy as well as Israël.
