Widerstandsnest 159 Sturmvogel - Vf Schnabelstand

This Widerstandsnest (independent infantry strongpoint) was part of the German Atlantic Wall (Atlantikwall).

For any defender the Plage de la Sirène is a place requiring special protection, as it provides easy access to the village of Framzelle and from there on to the rear of the Cap Gris Nez defences. Therefore, as early as 1940, the location was defended, initially with barbed wire.

In 1941 Widerstandsnest 10 was established with several machine gun positions.

In 1942 Tobruks and Schnabelstände were built.

In 1943 the coastline between the Plage de la Sirène and the Pointe de la Courte Dune was integrated in the strongpoint Stützpunkt 209 Sturmvogel.

In 1944 the cliffs were mined an further reinforced with barbed wire. Also, anti-tank obstacles were place. Later the strongpoint was divided up into the strongpoints Widerstandsnest 159a "Falke" and Widerstandsnest 159 "Sturmvogel", the latter occupying the houses in the hamlet Le Sodit.
