Fleet city (Camp Parks / Shoemaker)

During World War II, "Fleet City" was on this location which contained three camps:

Camp Parks
Camp Shoemaker
U.S. Naval Hospital

Together, it was the largest Naval base in the U.S..

Camp Parks and Shoemaker were built by the U.S. Navy in November 1942 side by side. Camp Parks was used for tactical training of SeaBee units. Camp Shoemaker was used as a naval training base and distribution center. During the Korean War, part of it was taken over by the U.S. Air Force under new name: Parks Air Force Base. After the war, the base returned to the U.S. Army.
