Wall of Remembrance Port Filiolet

Lucien Hasley was a young boy in June of 1944. He decided to create a Wall of Remembrance in 1982 and worked on it for decades. The wall, at his home in Port Filiolet near Picauville, tells the story of the 508 Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne and includes the names of many paratroopers.

The bas-relief depicts the flooded marshes, the crashed planes, the emblem of Normandy, parachutes, the dove of peace, the broken remains of a swastika, crosses representing American, German and French victims, a praying character and a half sun symbolizing hope.

The names of 62 paratroopers, two pilots and two French civilians are engraved on the stones. Mr. Hasley offers a color booklet for sale that explains the history of the wall.
