Musée de la Libération

Towering above Cherbourg from the top of the 'Montagne du Roule' there is a 19th century fort presenting a magnificent view on the harbour and city.
In 1954 the 'Musée de la Libération' (Liberation museum) was founded and it was renovated in 1994 for the 50th birthday of D-Day.
The museum offers a dramatic and lively scenic treatment from the dark period of the German 'Occupation' to the Reconstruction. Many films and soundtracks help recreating the spirit of these times and understanding them better, bringing them back to life through a large dispay of photographs, arms, unifoms, every day life objects and so on. On the picture you will see some red circles, this are some German bunkers.

For current visiting hours, please visit the website of the museum.
