Kokoda Trail - Memorial Ioribaiwa

Ioribaiwa was the furthest point of the Japanese advance during the Kokoda Track Campaign (or Kokoda Trail Campaign) from July 1942 to January 1943.

The Japanese already could see the lights of Port Moresby, but because of the delaying fights they ran out of their food-supplies. The Australians, having short supply lines were getting stronger. On 24 September 1942, the Japanese High Command decided to withdraw to the Nort-Eastern coast, also because of the Battle of Guadalcanal.
