Memorial Lt. Ivan Vasiljevitsj Beloöesko

This memorial, dedicated to the First Lieutenant Ivan Vasiljevitsj Beloöesko (1920 - 1945), stands in the village Abazovka. He commanded a tank company during the Berlin offensive in April 1945. According to Soviet reports, Beloöesko's company encountered heavy enemy resistance on 21 April. In response, Vasiljevitsj left one peleton behind olong the frontline and broke through the enemy's rear with the rest of his company. The company destroyed 2 tanks, 3 artillery pieces, four mortars, one mechanized gun and about 120 enemy soldiers that day. They were engaged in fierce house-to-house fighings and managed to reach the centre of Berlin with the rest of the Red Army. Beloöesko was killed in action near the Reichstag and received the title "Hero of the Soviet Union" a month later. He grew up in this village.
