Remembrance Stone Favoritenstraße 12

This remembrance stone (Erinnerungsstein) in the pavement in front of the house door commemorates:
Wilhelm Wolf Waltuch
Berta Waltuch
Adolf Waltuch
Wilhelm Illner
, who lived here and were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis.

Wilhelm and Berta Waltuch lived here with their 3 children Adolf, Hedda and Gertrude. Also Berta's brother Wilhelm Illner and her mum Schendel Itzigsohn. This was a well to do area of Vienna. Hedda and Gertrude escaped to England and some how Schendel, in her 80s, survived the war only to die 6 months after its end. All the others were murdered by the Nazis. If you pass by please give the stone a little rub. They were a good and loving family whose lives were taken so cruelly. Maybe some of the happiness that should have been theirs will rub of on you and you can pass it on.
The ground floor used to be The Johann Strauss Kino. It was bombed by the allied forces and 1/4 of it destroyed. Now it is a good quality hotel, Johann Strauss Hotel.
