Crash Location P-38E Lightning & P-40E Warhawk

Five U.S. Warplanes crashed near Cold Bay Airbase during the Second World War. These planes were condemned and buried on the spot:

P-38E Lightning 41-2006 (1942)
P-38E Lightning 41-2027 (1942)
P-40E Warhawk 41-9705 (?)
P-40K Warhawk 42-9791 (1943)
P-40K Warhawk 42-45946 (1943)

The remains were excavated by Dick Odger. Parts of two P-38E Lightnings were used to restore P-38J 42-67638. Of the three P-40 Warhawks, P-40E Warhawk 41-9705 is back to flying condition.
