Biography

Douglas Macrae Ross was the Wireless Operator of Handley Page Halifax Mk II, W1147, TL-J, shot down over the Netherlands on the return flight from Duisburg on July 26th, 1942 by Oberleutnant Kurt Loos in his Messerschmitt Bf 110, 1. Staffel, Nachtjagdgeschwader 1.

The crew was formed by Pilot Officer John Edward Maple (Pilot), Flight Sergeant Clarence Ernest Evans (Observer), Flight Sergeant Douglas Macrae Ross (WOP / Air Gunner), Pilot Officer John Francis Day (WOP / Air Gunner), Sergeant William Arthur Allsopp (Air Gunner), Pilot Officer Haddo Eric von Bruce (Air Gunner) and Sergeant John Thomas Bennett (Flight Engineer). Only Sergeant Bennett managed to survive the crash.
